My name is Susan Thorp and I am the second grade teacher. I attended Saint Francis School from first grade to ninth grade, when the high school closed. My teaching degree is from Clarion University, where I graduated summa cum laude. I currently have a Master's Equivalency in Elementary Education. I have been teaching at Saint Francis for 25 years. My husband, Jeff, is an electrician. My two sons, Nicholas and Nathaniel, attend Saint Francis School now, also.
My philosophy of education is to model what I expect of my students and to use positive reinforcement. I encourage students to be curious about the world and new ideas, and to be actively involved in their learning. By demonstrating appropriate words and actions, and following a daily routine, the students can feel safe and prepared when they are in my classroom. The results are student success.
